Are you interested in being a ULR?
Connect is looking to establish, train and support a network of Union Learning Reps (ULRs).

ULRs have a right to reasonable time off with pay to perform the rep's duties which can include:

  • undertaking training for the role
  • analysing learning and training needs
  • brokering and arranging learning opportunities with learning providers
  • opportunities to address equality in access to training
  • monitoring the quality of learning provision
  • signposting for career advice when appropriate
  • keeping records of individual cases dealt with, referrals, learning interests etc

Connect arranges a bespoke four-day ULR training course in two two-day parts. The course is accredited through Open College Network.

The Employment Act 2002 gives unions rights to appoint ULRs in companies where the employer recognises the union. ULRs have rights to reasonable paid time off for carrying out their duties and to train for such duties. The ACAS code of practice gives guidance on time off for trade union duties and activities.
